Bachelors Grove 07-90
« on: Jul 17 2009 - 09:48AM »
Here are the earliest pics I have of Bachelors Grove and hope you all enjoy them. Sorry to say nothing paranormal there but you will see some different locations on some and the area looks much different today.  Aten

The really sad part is that it wouldn't take a whole lot to restore it to that sort of condition...

Obviously there's some things that can't be done, mostly concerning the stones, but getting in there with some weed-eaters, some rakes, lopping sheers, and mayhaps a chainsaw or two could make the Grove look like people care again.

It's abandoned because it's been allowed to become abandoned.

I for one say it's time to reclaim the Grove. Find some contacts at the Forest Preserve, find out what we need to make everything happen, and then get it handled.

As much as I love the Grove, I'm sick of seeing it in it's forgotten state, and after seeing these pics and reminding myself what it looked like in the mid-90s when I visited it the first time, I think we should reclaim it now, and keep it that way.

Yes we could fix it up again with a little work but we cant do anything yet unfortunatly.
Once the FPD looks at what is growing there maybe we can do as you mentioned.

Great pictures Aten =D> Seen as though the stones were somewhat sparse even back then.It is a whole lot different but I sort of like the tiger lily all around. It really would not be to bad to clean up. Stupid question now what is fpd and what is growing there?

Well when I was there in July of 1990 there was a lot of junk scattered about and I did`nt want to take pics of that so I tried to take nice looking pics even though there was spray paint on so many stones. If you look at the Fulton stone you can see there was different stuff on it at that time. The place still had some kind of cvare then too!  che

Thankyou scaryd, I agree the lilies look great there and give some nice color. I would love to get some crocus bulbs and plant them all over the cemetery to give it a nice look after the snow goes away. The FPD is the Forest Preserve District and from what I heard they are going to check and see if there are endangered species of plants growing there and nothing can be cut at this time. I know there are a lot of us that would be willing to make the place pristine again so for now I guess we will have to wait. I have a lot of gardening tools and when we get the ok to clean up the mess i`ll bring whatever is needed.  :victory:
