The straight traveling streaks I've seen. Living between 4 transformers, when one of those goes off it's like the 4th of July.

The first thing they show, the darting ball, that one's a little harder to explain.

My dad and a few family members saw witness the explosive power during a thunderstorm in Indiana, in the 60's. They were sitting in the living room when a lightning bolt hit a tree in the front yard and ball of lightning shot out of the split tree..traveled up the driveway..stopped on the walkway leading from the driveway to the front door and exploded. It created damage to the corner of the garage, took down the electrical and telephone lines, and cracked the cement of the walkway. The crack in the walkway was still visible when I was a kid in the 70's..and I think just still remained when they sold the house in the 90's.

I think it's all ball lightening.  Below was copied out of a dictionary after searching on the internet:

"Ball lightning usually moves parallel to the earth, but it takes vertical jumps. Sometimes it descends from the clouds, other times it suddenly materializes either indoors or outdoors or enters a room through a closed or open window, through thin nonmetallic walls or through the chimney."

I don't think I would like to share my space with one of these even though they are beautiful!
