My Story about Bachelors Grove! And, PICTURES!
« on: May 13 2008 - 12:38PM »
Hey everyone, very interesting board, and I'd like to say I'm new and stuff--but appreciate what I've been reading by users already.

Since I'm new, and very interested in paranormal; I'll admit though, I check out stuff all the time. I've been to Bachelors grove tons of times last October, so I'm going to post a story this past weekend about what happened. It's cool, but nothing too weird went on. Just the fact that, It was a great way to start. I'm going to post this from an article I'm writing. I'm a writer and what not, so please keep in mind that this will probably be published work in the future. I figured I'd let you all read it first!

Article Title: The Wind Never Howls In Bachelors Grove

Lost souls, distant memories, and disturbances have plagued this little abandoned cemetery. Bachelors Grove has been said, to be one of the most haunted Cemeteries in the country--much less the world. Located in Midlothian Illinois, a suburb near Cicero in Chicago Illinois has had the miss fortune of decrepancy for over 40 years. Started out in the early 1800's, it was a place where families could go and pay respects to their silent sleeping passed on friends and family. A road was built, and during the 1960's, you could pass this place with your car, as it was once the Midlothian turnpike. This was an avid place for teenagers to go to make out. However, things started taking turns for the worst. Graves where robbed, séances conducted; tombstones where moved, destroyed, and thrown into the murky pond located directly behind the place; along with bodies of gangsters from the prohibition time. Unfortunately, this place has seen better days. With all of this going on, it's no wonder the spirits have not been able to sleep peacefully. As it started out, apparently over 200 graves where once here, but now, only 20 or so remain--destroyed or broken.

Last night, I took a group of out of town friends out for ghost hunting. It started by checking out St. Mary's Cemetery in Buffalo Grove, followed by I-Hop. I decided to invite them to Haunted Archer Ave., who many have you, might have read about in my last note. We went over to Maple Lake as well, looking for the ghost light that's said to haunt the man made structure. A cop then pulled up, asked for our ID's. As we waited, he asked us what we where doing out there. We simply told him, "we're looking for ghosts." He looked at us, smirked, and asked "have any of you been to Bachelors Grove?" Rob, Matt and I said, "yes, we've been there during the day last October, but never at night." He smiled and said, "tell you what, how about you guys follow me, and I'll give you a tour of the place?" I couldn't believe this, after warning us of trespassing on the property we where loitering then, he wanted us to trespass in a more remote--yet hot location? We couldn't refuse, this was a chance to almost legally, check out one of the hottest spots of Chicago's Paranormal sites; with out the fear of getting into trouble. Plus, you can't say no to an armed man who, by law, has to protect you. We followed the officer all the way over there. Parked in a rural gravel road, located next to two twin telephone towers.

We walked up towards the chain linked fence reading the sign "keep out," our group walked around the post and headed down the narrow dark path towards the cemetery. As we walked further and further, the trees seemed to move in closer and closer. The once road that ran through there, crumbled under our feet. The wind sang whispers as we drew closer. Finally we arrived in front of the gate, as trees where knocked down, and covered the ground. One giant trunk, was found smashed onto part of the barbed wire fence that once kept people like us out. The entrance greeted us, the wind picked up just a bit more before we went in. We walked in, and immediately snapped photo's of everything around us. The grass seemed a bit taller than it was in October, but strangely enough, the presence of the place, was still there. I looked up into the sky, and around the trees inside. To my eyes, I could see wind picking up outside the grounds, but oddly, not inside. It was dead, dead like the people who lay beneath our feet; only earth keeping them from being bare. None of the trees seemed to budge. We walked around, and snapped more and more photographs. I walked around some of the graves by myself, read some of the names, as I have back around Halloween. We found part of a bone lying on the ground by us; belonging to whom? Animal or Human being?

I walked up to the officer and asked him if he's heard any stories, or has seen anything inside. His response, "I've heard many stories, but I've never came in here at night. I once came down the path to check it out, but I immediately turned around. I never come in here--not after what I've heard." He's right, he just stood outside the gate, let us use his flashlight, and we had a party. Even during the day, the place gave off a bad vibe, and you can bet at night, it would only be worse. We where done here, and we walked down the path, back to our vehicles who where waiting to greet us. I turned and looked back, as I saw some of the trees in front of the cemetery sway in the wind; waving back at me as if saying "goodbye." I turned around and asked the officer more questions. As we finally reached our Vehicles, he said goodbye to us, and we thanked him for taking us down there.

This is an experience I'll never forget, probably none of us. After telling the group in my car about the most haunted locations in Chicago (this being one of them) ironically enough, we wound up there last night. I can only tell you this, after being on the grounds there, I couldn't help but believe what I've read; the wind never does howl inside Bachelors Grove.

Hopefully all of you enjoyed it! I'm still editing it, but it's had popular views already. So I'm pretty excited about it actually!

Thanks for sharing your story with us, I was very interesting.  I've been there so many times I could see what you where describing in my mind as I read it. I haven' been there at night since I was a teenager though.

You went there at night, what a brave young man.  I can't believe that a cop took you there.  Your lucky he wasn't a crazed killer that just killed the cop and stole his police car......with your group next on his list.   ter  OK, I have a over active imagination.

You didn't see any of the blue orbs, there very well known there at night.  Be sure to upload your pictures.

Thanks again for posting.....................I've seen you lurking around for days

Thank you for taking time to read too! Yeah, I was able to take 1 or 2 photo's left on my disposable camera. My friends used a lot of their digital photography, and some of them picked up a couple of things. What I'll do later tonight, is post photo's from this topic--in here.

We where kind of thinking the same thing when the cop escorted us in there, except he wasn't like your normal cop. The guy is a minister, and helps build homes in Kenya. Plus, he looked like Morgan Freeman, so were could you go wrong with that?

This is the first time I was in there at night. Another time was last October, when friends and I for the first time actually, found the place and before we could go in there, we where busted, and they made us do push-ups on the side of the road. Which I found out, is actually illegal for a forest preserve police officer.

I did study some of her photo's, and did find some blue and yellow orbs in them actually. She has them on her myspace, but I'll definitely steal them and put them up here for you guys to take a look at actually. Also, I'll post another story, this time it's about Archer Ave. and it's probably going to be one of the strangest you'll read.

Hello there VaganRichy. What a well written story. I can tell that you are a writer! Very nicely done.

I'm glad that you guys got to have that experience. I should hope to get so lucky one of these days! And I'm glad that the Morgan Freeman look-a-like was not a crazed killer but a nice cop that builds homes in Kenya.....LOL

I can't wait to see some of your pictures and here the story about Archer Ave. Don't make us wait too long....<smile>

We are definitely glad to have you here at the Bachelors-Grove Website. Ghost1 .... Our Imperial Grand Poobah has put together this wonderful place for us to meet at and share our stories of the paranormal along with our stories of Bachelors-Grove. He built it from the ground up and keeps it running very smoothly.

I haven't been to the BG yet so your story was a treat for me. I can't wait to go. I am going to try and make the very next ghost hunt!

See you around the site!

Thank you very much Colleen, it's a pleasure to meet so many new, yet cool people with the same interests. I was there plenty last October; it seemed that every weekend I'd go out there with a different group of people, and we'd walk around and what not. At night or night, the place is seriously very creepy in itself. I'm going to post the photo's that I believe are the best ones from the trip in hopefully an hour here. I'm at work currently--yet I'm not doing work ha ha.

Thank you so much for you interest and reading too! I will put up my archer ave. story too; it's bound to get you I swear!

Keep in mind, these are hers! There are more up, but I figured I'd let you guys dissect them a bit. I don't know, nothing really seems to catch my eye that much I suppose.

Thank you thank you! They're my friends photo's actually. A bunch of my friends took pictures of the place, but she's the one who put them up first. Hopefully you enjoyed the story that went along with these too!?

I did enjoy your article, with the exception of going to BG at night.  I just don't like hearing that people are doing that because it is illegal and the police would just love to have a reason to shut it down to the public once and for all so that they do not have to patrol it anymore and also so that the park district does not have to upkeep it anymore.  That's all :^:

Maggie.....they had a police escort! In my opinion that makes all the difference. If some cop wants to open the BG up at night for a group of my friends to go ghost hunting then I am there.  I wouldn't want to go there without an official knowing about it bcause anything could happen and then yes they would certainly close it down but this cop even waited outside of the cemetary so that if he felt anything were going south he could radio for help.  I'm sure you could come up with some scenario that would make it impossible for this man to get help to them but I'm still trying to live as though I'm not in a slasher type movie. I mean if the place gets that dangerous then they need to do something more about it.

well....ummmm....for me, personally, the police escort was one of the most "confusing" things about veganrichy's story.

I don't think I can accept this "cop" at face value, veganrichy.  Maybe not a "crazed killer" like Ghost1 suggested - but my concern is that you were being "set up" for something - and not a ghost hunt.  I could make a scenerio work (at least in my own twisted little mind) where the police have informed their superiors that a group of "tresspassers" has been arrested at Bachelor's Grove and are being brought in to be booked...

The group manages to make a run for it and they get away from the cops....now the cops there at BG look like idiots to their superiors, so they just have to find another group of "tresspassers" to transport to the station under arrest....

Suddenly you meet a cop who says "Hey, I'll break the law myself and bring you folks to Bachelor's Grove Cemetery!"

I don't know....I'm just really happy that nothing like that happened to you, veganrichy!  AND WELCOME TO THE BOARD!!!

Yeah, I mean that was running through my mind at the time. However, I'm sure my out of town Mchenry friends weren't really thinking that. However, this guy was too cool--and he looked like Morgan Freeman. Plus, he's some minister guy that does workmanship with Kenya and Africa. I don't know, it doesn't add to the alleged persona he could have carried, but he definitely was one of the nicer cops I've ever met. I also have his business card and stuff he handed out, for donation purposes. I might actually keep in touch with him, and I might email him my story before It gets published for my paper. Thank you for welcoming me to the board as well, I'm glad to be here--since I can relate to a lot of your stories.

No worries, I've never, and will not attempt to go at night. I was just in the strangest place at the right time; just because of it, a police officer decided to escort us in and show us the place. I have just a bit more of respect than most do for the dead--thankfully. But I'll definitely continue to go there during the day though, not to mention bring friends back.
