Title: Nature At Batchelors Grove June 2009
Post by: Aten on Jul 08 2009 - 09:44PM
The first 3 pics are the huge turtle at the pond and the 4th is a family of Mallard Ducks. Not my best work but only had the 35 to 70 lens on the camera shooting Kodak 400 gold film.

I seen one again just on Monday at around 12:00pm basking in the sun and once he saw me it was like a brick hitting the water.   :sign07:

Thanks Tommy there are 2 huge turtles living in that pond and the next time i`ll have my 70 to 300 mil zoom on the camera and get a much better pic of the turtles.

I guess these are snapper turtles?

No ixex they are not snappers, snappers got a more spiney shell and these are smooth. They are as big as a snapper though i`ll have to research the Ill. turtles and post what type they are. :Computer:

Ixex you were right about the turtles being snappers. I did not know there were 2 types here and he is a link to validate the species.

Have you seen the Osages there? Last time I was there, the area had lots of osage oranges there. I thought it was odd til I realszed that the animals eat them, but what would they be doing there? There are no osage trees in BGC.

No Tommy I have not seen those trees but they may be there as they do grow all over.
I`ve seen wild strawberrys and rasberrys there this year already so there is a lot growing in the cemetery and on the outside of it. Nature is funny if something dies off something will take its place.

One can find osages & its mother trees just around the corner from BGC.  Go south on Central ave a few blocks.  There's a condo there that has them in the front.

Tommy all it takes is a seed to get started and the next thing you have is a tree and maybe that happened or someone brought them for the critters.

Hi Scaryd sorry about the pic not turning out for you but it does happen. I did`nt know you were a animal person like me if you and the hubby come out this Sunday i`ll show you where I got the turtle pic. They are skiddish so you have to be real quiet on the path by the pond. I have seen the turtles twice now and they love to bask in the sun on the fallen tree. John, Rachael, myself and Rachaels friend saw a doe with a fawn in the area we were at last Sunday in the dead zone where there were so many dead trees i`m really surprised we did`nt see any when we were there. It was my pleasure to show you the things at BG and glad you enjoyed it.  :Y:   ;)
