Title: Red Gate Woods
Post by: phoenix on Mar 07 2012 - 10:13AM
Red Gate Woods,  the original site of Argonne Labs, and where the worlds first nuclear reactor CP-1 was moved and CP-3 was built.  Early pieces of the Manhattan Project.  Einstein & Enrico Fermi are said to have visited this site out on Archer Ave., near Route 83 in the WIllow Springs Area.  An area that is infamous for paranormal activity.   I didnt feel or see anything,  this area was eerily quiet and dead.

Not much left of what went on here other than stone markers marking where the reactors were buried and another field that was a dump.

Just wanted to share as I thought this is interesting

Interesting. I was out there a long, long time ago. The markers must have been placed there since I was there. I just remember some concrete slabs and a lot of weeds.

it was a butt kicking hike to visit both areas as I had to double time it  to try and squeeze this visit in during my lunch hour.
