This is one photo of the Hell Gate that Max showed to me down in Orland Park, I believe.
It was actually a strange place and very disconcerting; remember those horror movies with those long hallways that seem to keep stretching back into oblivion? This site was like that...
Here is a closeup of the photo with the possible creature put in a box to hold it from wrecking havoc upon this earth!!
:Spying:
-
Cool pic. Did you follow the trail?
-
No, neither JP nor myself followed the trail, and I refuse to.
The stories I've heard about the things that appear aren't exactly friendly, and I don't have the proper protection to handle a fight of that magnitude...
The person who initially told and showed me the hell gate told me the creatures he saw moving back and forth across the path were true demons, not the half-breeds that are known to make appearances in cemeteries and the like.

Hello Bodhi and Max,
Thanx for the compliment Bodhi!
And thank you max for filling him in!! che
That was a very strange place and it had a distinct air of menace about it.
I think that it is a very cool photo too!!
Hey guys, I was just looking at the photo and something caught my eye...right in the middle of the branch laying across the path..is that some sort of humanoid figure standing behind them? I looked at it with zoom mode and that does look like some kind of humanoid/creature to me.
What do you think??
-
JP, you'd have to point out the general area that you see something... I'm not seeing something pop out, but knowing the area it wouldn't surprise me much if there was.
-
Hi Max, I posted a closeup of the photo in the first entry.
-
Yeah... Umm.... About that...
I see a few humanoid beings there...
-
Thanks for pointing that out, Max.
There seems to be quite a few faces in that photo... ter

MAX, Im in orland and i want to go there. Where is this place at?
-
Hey! This is my thread, not Max's... eno lol
Hi Ed, How have you been? Let me see if I remember where it is at. 143rd street West of LaGrange Road ..go to
108th street I believe...turn right , going North until the road bends sharply at a 90 degree turn to the left...right
at that bend in the road on the east side is the path to the Hell Gate. There is no parking there so make the turn to the left and park your car of the side of the road as much as you can.

I lived about a block or so away from this forest preserve for 13 years. I never heard of it being haunted or called "Hell Gate" but I did hear a body was in the woods on the 139th side of the 90 degree angle you're talking about. I guess someone was running or walking their dog and found a body in a black garbage bag. BUT this was what kids were saying when I was in junior high or early high school - so who the heck knows if it's true or not Qu
-
So you kids played in there all the time and didn't know!!! :055confused:
I would imagine that aside from that body that was found nothing strange or creepy ever happened?
-
No I never heard of anything strange or creepy happening - well except for the dead body of course! And I don't think any kids ever played in there. It's not really a spot for playing, but drove past it every day on the bus. . .

139th & 108th is the exact intersection.

The house is just the address that's marked... You can trace the path going from the street into the woods... It's at the very corner of the pavement.
-
Right. So Exzyle2k since my wife grew up 2 blocks away from there and never heard of anything about that place, what have you heard about that intersection which leads into the forest perserve to McGinnis Slough?
-
Demons - I don't have any personal experiences. But I do trust the word of someone who has. His name is Joe.
I worked with him at TigerDirect (now CompUSA). He was a technician with myself, and we spent much of the time BSing back and forth. One day we got on the topic of Bachelor's Grove and other haunted locations. We decided to take a road trip, where we visited Resurrection, St. James Sag, Maple Lake, and the Grove. He then told me he had something to show me, a "surprise" or sorts.
We jumped in his car and he took me to 108th & 139th, and on the way he told me the story. He has a friend who was/is into the dark arts. And not just dabbling in it, but seriously involved. Joe's friend wanted to take him to "a very evil place" and wanted to know what Joe saw there. Joe, being the type of person that says "I'll do anything once" was up for it, and they went to the intersection. Joe and his friend got out of the car and stood in front of the chain stretching across the path.
This was at night, pitch black, and Joe told me how he had to wait for his eyes to adjust. Joe's friend asked him if he saw anything at the end of the path, and when Joe could make things out, he told me he was silenced with what he saw.
As you can see in the pictures, the trees form almost a tunnel. Joe told me at the end of the tunnel he saw shadows darting back and forth, some small, some big, some huge. There was also a doorway, that seemed to emit what he described as a "dark light". It was darker than the surrounding forest, however it clearly illuminated the shadows moving back and forth. He described them as large-bodied creatures, muscular with long arms and almost a hunched way of walking.
Joe and his friend stood there and watched these creatures, his friend describing to him that this was one of 7 gates to hell in Illinois alone. As his friend was talking, Joe noticed one of the creatures walk across the path, stop, and turn to face them. As the creature began moving down the path, it was growing larger. It was at this point where Joe and his friend decided it was time to go.
Asking around, there was another person who had been there, walking through the forest during the day. He said he noticed a bunch of foundations that were built, but no buildings and no sign of further construction. In one of the foundations this person said he found a brand new tricycle, as if it had just been purchased and placed there.

McGinnis Slough?
WOW!!! I remember driving passed there on the way to turkey dinner, last Thursday. I remember the name because it sounded weird, lol
-
Yup... But you were on the other side... You were East, this is West... And never between shall they meet!!
-
Maybe it's a good thing I was on the otherside gri
-
Wow! I live off of 143rd between LaGrange and Wolf Rd......and that is the route I take back from work to skip the 143rd and Wolf intersection during rush hour :)

My wife and I went there last night and walked the path again. Still nothing creepy or scary happening. When we first pulled up to the site I was like "look at those eyes" but it ended up being 2 deer in our headlights. Ive been to Hell Gate 3 times this past week. I got some great pictures of the old house foundations which I will post later. This week we will return to walk the whole trail to the lake and back. We will report any findings.
-
My wife and I drove past the opening of the trail yesterday and were thinking of going in (more me than her):) to take a hike later that day in there, but were told by others of the many mosquitoes some experienced on other trails in the area recently so that pulled the brakes for her, other than the fact it was a scorcher too yesterday :) ....the trail-head is pretty well overgrown already and further down seems about the same, but doable for the more enthusiastic.... :^:
-
Wow. Anymore talk of making a trip there?
-
BTW the real name to that place is called the ruins because of old building that partly remains there.
-
I would love to go to that place. It looks so neat. :97:
