Title: The Villisca Axe Murder House
Post by: motherchucker on Aug 01 2008 - 05:09PM
I heard about this a few months ago and wanted to know if anyone else heard/been to this place?  From the Evidence I've seen this place has it all.

Heres a video from PRISM (Awesome guys had the chance to talk to them a bit in an old forum) Anyway they sent me a link to this video of EVP's THEY caught from this house.

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=T7Wh-lLRhmg (http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=T7Wh-lLRhmg)

Heres a link if you wanna know more about this place.

Yeah, I've seen that before, I think it's in our video board somewhere...There so many, it's hard to find things sometimes.

They got some great EVP's on that investigation!  I would guess there would always be paranormal activity at a mass murder seen, people pass very sudden and they don't know what's going on.  :Y:

WOW ter Those EVP's are so clear it sounds like it is real children in the room with the people.

Hey magpie thats only a taste of what this place has.  I suggest looking thru youtube and watching all the videos from this place.  My favorite video/story is the upstairs children's room closet door. This has been recorded by very valued people including Ursula Beilski, famous writer of ghost in chicago and many others.  This door will open and close on command.  That is where those EVP's were taken as well.  Very interesting place.

I kinda was thinking that the investigator ask the entity to please close the door for her again and then they got this fabulous EVP of the children deciding who was going to do it this time. That's the impression that I get. Thanks for posting this video! I'm going to look for some more. Yeah I do remember the house and we do have a post on it some were in this forum.

Yep ....here it is. I wasn't sure that it was the same exact EVP's or not but it was actually the same exact Video...lol  Anyway I was happy to listen to it again and I wasn't aware that there were many others but now that you told me about them I will try to find them on youtube. Thanks!

It's hard to imagine that 8 people where all killed in such a tiny little house, you would think that someone could of got away.   I mean how do you quietly kill people with a axe, with that little house they would have had to wake up?   ter

Before 50 yrs ago, things weren't readily documented. In the rural areas, even into the 1950's many people had no telephones, electricity or running water. People worked the fields hard and slept even harder. A scream in the night from a child inside of a house could go unheard. A dark clad murderer entering a house while the neighborhood slept could pass inconspicuously. Of course, a sleepy town in midwest America probably doesn't often see a crime like this, doesn't even know what to do.

Yeah I agree with what ghostlight said.  Everything that I have read about this family though talks about the fact that even thought they were not as rich as that guy that allegedly conspired with the killer to have them killed. They were still quite a prominent family. I have always been shocked to see what a small home they lived in. Even with the standards of the early 1900's. And by the 50's most ppl had electricity and running water.  This family was still going outside at dusk to use the outhouse. Most ppl had a slop jar for overnight but not because they were afraid of going outside but just bcause they didn't want to get outa bed n go outside were it was sometimes cold and dark.  I can even remember that my grandmother never ever locked her doors. They barely had locks on the doors and if they did it was those skeleton key locks that were almost useless.

Check out the evp we caught in the children's bedroom closet. No one was upstairs at the time.

Marion that's awesome since no one was upstairs at the time. But I'm not sure if I am hearing Go Away or not. I do see how it could be Go Away but it could just be a grunt which is still awesome since no one was up there! How did you come to feel that it says Go Away? Is there a cleaner version were you can hear that clearly or is just that you really feel that is what it is saying.

One thing about it. That doesn't sound like one of the children. And I haven't heard any of the children say Go Away. They are usually playfull and very talkative. And VERY CLEAR speaking when they speak to ya.  :*:   If this does say Go Away it makes sense cause this sounds like it could be the bad man that the children have been heard referring to. And you would expect him to want you to Go Away so it does fit!

Anyway .... Very good work. !

Hey Colleen! I should probably tell you why we hear "Go Away". My husband and I went to Villisca this past spring with a whole group of people. The group is led by Ursula Bielski and Ed Shanahan (Chicago Hauntings). They have many cool trips they go on. We spent all night in the house experiencing crazy things.

When we first got there we were given a tour of the home. A bunch of us were upstairs in the children's bedroom. We were messing around with the closet door trying to debunk it by opening it, closing it, slamming it, etc. The house is very old, as you know, and the door was very hard to shut all the way. You'd close it and it would stick partway in the doorjam. You really had to give it a hard hit slam to get it closed all the way. We started asking the children if they could open/close the door for us - to no avail. We shut the door as far as we could and one of our group members had her hand at the crack of the door. She said something like, "I didn't think they'd do it anyway". As soon as she said that, the door slammed all the way shut on her finger and gave her a bad blood blister. I saw the whole thing. NO ONE had been touching the door when it happened! It was awesome (except that she got hurt).

Later in the evening, my hubby put our digital voice recorder in the upstairs closet and closed the door leaving it in there. We all went downstairs for our "circle of energy". This is when Ed Shanahan (our psychic) leads our group in contacting the spirits at the location. We had a couple sensitives in our group and they were all feeling the same thing - the murderer is stuck in the home because of what he did. We had a ghost box running the whole time and we heard him speak to us many times. The name "Blackie" came through clear as a bell on several occasions. And he was mad as hell. So Ed started taunting him and there was a lot of anger felt in the room. "How could you do such a thing to an innocent family? Especially the poor children! You're a sick S.O.B. You know that don't you?" On the ghost box, he was telling us to go away. During all this is when we picked up the EVP. If you notice, he sounds pissed! Because of the circumstances, we're almost positive that's what he said.

Later on, I think it was around 3am or so, something else happened. One of the sensitives was standing in the kitchen by herself when a few of us came back inside from having a smoke. She was standing there with a startled look on her face. She said, right before we walked in, she heard a little girl giggling right by her. So we decided to investigate. We went into the downstairs sewing room (where the Stillinger girls were murdered). We were trying to get them to talk to us. About 10 minutes into it, a couple of us heard a little girl whispering in the closet. So we pulled back the closet curtain and started asking questions. All of a sudden something moved in there. It startled us. There was no one in the closet. As we went to leave after recovering from our shock, about 5 of us were standing in the kitchen talking. Three of us, including myself, heard a noise coming from the back sewing room that we'll never forget. "Drip, drip, drip, drip, drip." It was a very thick sounding drip. Not like water - like blood. Now remember, there's no plumbing or electricity in the house.

It's a long story, I know. And if you stuck with it and are still reading this, I'm glad you did. I'm not a great writer but I did the best I could. Villisca Axe Murder House is a must see! There is definitely something going on there. What we experienced there is, I believe, a combination of an intelligent haunting (we communicated with the murderer) and a residual haunting (we heard the little girl hiding in the closet and then the blood dripping). Go there. You will never forget your experience and you will be changed forever. I feel drawn there. There's this incredible need to go back and help those poor children.

Here's a thought that just popped into my head: I want to go back there - desperately. If any of you'd like to go, we should reserve a date there and spend the night. I know it's expensive with gas prices. But if enough of us go, we could carpool. Drop me a line if you're interested. I have no problem handling all the details and planning it all. I promise, it will be a night you'll never forget.

That is incredible!! I would definitely LOVE to go there and spend the night! There is not much that I would rather do. As Ghost1 and the rest of the regulars on here know of me I have a very hard time getting away from work. I would have to really plan it for a while. I hear the place is booked up solid for a bit in advance though so if you could maybe find out when they could take our reservation and how much it would cost then I could see if there is anyway that I could make the date. Believe me when I say that I would do everything in my power to make it happen. Especially if a bunch of us were going. I love my mini family here and I haven't even met any of them! So that would be a dream vacation to get to go to that house AND to meet my friends! So see what you can find out and who would like to go! Your story has made me want to go even more than I already did!

I looked at the calendar a bit ago, and weekends are booked solid through Thanksgiving weekend.
I grew up in Omaha, and my family still lives there, so if we were to go and freak out and want to run away, we can go cry at my Mom's house  :Y:
The more I read about it, the more I want to go!
Title: Re: The Villisca Axe Murder House
Post by: Marion76 on Sep 14 2008 - 11:48AM
Great! I'm so glad you want to go!! I checked their calendar. They're totally available during the winter months. But, since there's no heat, I'd rather pass on that. So the first available months that we could book are April and May. A saturday night is probably best.

It's best not to have a group larger than 10 since the house is so small (it really is cramped. You won't believe how cramped until you see it for yourself). Here's how the pricing works: an overnighter is $300 for up to 5 people. Then $60 per person over the 5. So as long as we have at least 5 going, it's only $60 per person. Plus, we could save gas money by carpooling if everyone chips in for gas. I wouldn't mind driving. I can fit 4 comfortably in my Jeep Liberty (unless I borrow my parents' Yukon :Y:). Than we could all go in one vehicle. We could pack a cooler for drinks and such.

And, Rachael, they also have a barn they built on the same property as the house. If anyone gets freaked out, they can always run in there. It has a working bathroom, refrigerator, tv, dvd, vhs, and chairs! It's not haunted. It was built not too long ago by the man who owns and runs it all now. But your mom's is a great option if someone feels they need to run farther away.  :) So thank you for that option!  bo

I'm really serious about this. So if anyone is interested, let me know! I'll start booking!  =D>

I love the cold but I wouldn't do that to everyone else so if u want we can try for the April booking. How will we do the money? I guess someone would have to put it on a credit card and everyone else would have to send their share to that person. Unless the website has some way of splitting it up and taking individual payments. Just let me know cuz I know we can get 5 ppl and $60 is cheap for an entire night in the house!

It's $100 down with the balance due upon arrival.
If we can get at least 5 people I would be willing to send in the deposit and pick up the $40 difference from someone when we get there.

That sounds like a great time!  I can fit 6 in my car, but don't we all live all over the place?

I'm on a very weak Wi-Fi signal right now, with my low battery light flashing.................When my Internet is back on, we can talk about details.

Rachael, I appreciate your offer to cover the deposit!! And Ghost1, I appreciate your offer to drive! And for all your efforts, I would gladly buy you both a drink or something!  bo ALRIGHT!! So, we have 5!  =D>

I know everyone lives all over the place. This is too true. Rachael and I are very close to each other. I could pick up Rachael. Colleen, you live light years away. If you either fly or drive, I'd have no problem picking you up from the airport or housing your car in my garage. Ghost1, we'll have to figure you out when we decide who's driving. One thing I'm thinking is we should all meet up at the home of whoever is 'on the way' to Villisca. It'd be easier on the way back just to drop people off and than they can drive home from there. But I don't feel like looking at a map right now.  LOL

Anyway, how soon can everyone go? The Saturday right after Thanksgiving is available if you can all go that early. Colleen, I know you need extra time to arrange time off. If that works for you, and everyone else, I think we should shoot for it. I'm starting to get ants in my pants. LOL

Me too Marion!
I saw that the 29th is open.  That's actually my birthday, and my first thought was 'Oh, I'll be in Omaha for Thanksgiving, that won't fly!'
But now that I know that Villisca is only 65 miles from the hometown, that might well work for me, and it sounds like as good a way to spend a birthday as any :)
Anyone else think that might work?

Keep this in mind guys, the house doesn't have heat. I think they bring in one heater for the downstairs and that's it. So the house will be pretty darn cold. If you're still ok with that, we can try going. If you all think that date will work for sure, let's set it as soon as possible before someone else snags it!

Title: Re: The Villisca Axe Murder House

Battery operated fleece blankets?! Qu What will they come up with next? LOL The only problem is, when there is heavy paranormal activity, it tends to drain batteries. When we were there, our camcorder went from 3/4 of the way charged to dead in a split second. Other's battery operated devices also went dead. That's the only thing I'd worry about. But if we wear long johns, hats, gloves, good winter coats, and quality sleeping bags, we should be fine. I'm making it sound bad, aren't I? emb We can handle it. And if we get cold, there's always the barn. It's heated.  :Y:

lol, I'm sorry Marion.  As far as I know, there are no such things as battery operated fleece blankets (there darn well should be though!).

Just... battery hot socks.  And also, just plain fleece blankets.   :Y:

So... for the 29th of November, we have myself, Marion (+ husband, yes?) and Colleen IN.

Ghost1, MM... yay or nay?  Anyone else? As long as we have at least 5 then we should book this badboy before someone else does.

Title: Re: The Villisca Axe Murder House

I feel sure that Ghost1 is gonna go if we do....LOL Not much doubt there. And if there ends up being an extra seat then my son will always go with us. I wouldn't think that we will have any trouble filling the spots. I almost feel guilty since I haven't ever made it to the Cemetary and yet I'm determined to get to go to the Vascilla Haunted House...LOL  But it's just that we haven't ever planned it very long in advance and also I've had employee problems that hopefully seem to have been fixed now. The trainee today was fabulous. In fact i'm not sure if I should be worried about my job  ter   Again   ;)

Rachael, I'm a total diptard!!! emb I didn't even think about what you said. BATTERY OPERATED FLEECE BLANKETS! Maybe I should invent those. LOL Ok.......  emb ... ahem.... On another note, my husband and I will both definitely be going. I also may have a friend who's in my paranormal group (Suburban Chicago Paranormal Society) who may be able to go. So.... if Ghost goes and anyone else, we'll need two drivers. Which is fine with me if Ghost still wants to drive. My husband's a trucker. He's used to doing a lot of driving. We're allowed up to 10 people. So, if anyone else wants to go - LET US KNOW ASAP! We gotta book this baby! che

I just heard back from Darwin today. Unfortunately, November 29th is booked. :V: I'm sorry, Rachael!

Why don't we shoot for April or May? I don't want to go during the heavy winter months for 2 reasons:
1) It's just too damn cold
2) You have to take small country back roads to get there. There is a possibility of the roads being closed. I don't want to chance it.

Everybody should think of the weekend that would work best in the months of April and May and post it. We need to book soon!!

Again, I'm sorry guys! I was excited too!! :V:

Because of the circomestances, we're almost positive that's what he said.

I've been wanting to go there for so long! I read the entire book on the murder, and tragically, nobody was ever punished for the crime. It's incredibly sad -- and I wish they never closed the case on it either. I'd love to go and spend the night, I just need 300+$'s and some friends to join me. Ursula's books are wonderful, how was she in person? I know of Ed, and I'm not the biggest fan actually. But, I'm glad you got a chance to go!!

Hey, Veganrichy! =D> Check this post often because we're planning a trip. I just booked Saturday, April 25th. We have one spot left if you'd like to join us! It's only $60 per person. I'm totally stoked! You should come with us!!
Ursula is a lot of fun. We had a great group last May. The only thing that sucked was everyone left just before 4p. My hubby and I were like, 'wait a minute! I thought we were staying the night!?' We had to leave since Ursula was in charge of the keys. And Ed, well, he's Ed. We all bumped into him at Bachelor's Grove last weekend. Ghost's opinion of him was pretty much dead on. LOL Ask him what he thinks.

Send me a PM if you want to join us in Villisca!!

Ha ha, I'd have to see what I'm up to. But after reading all of the information on the house, it's not a place I wouldn't want to miss. Seriously, it's on my top places to visit in my lifetime. I just like Ursula's writing a lot; as for ed -- I think he's a louse. I read that you guys did run into him, but what did you think of him!? Ha ha, I'll ask Ghost what he thinks -- but I think he's strange. I saw a lot of his youtube movies on the places, not to mention visited his site; I just believe he's a little -- well tries too hard etc.

Hey all! I sent in the $100 deposit for our stay scheduled for Saturday, April 25th. It's definitely on!! =D> I'm so excited!! No one owes me anything. Just be prepared to pay your $60 when we get there (and bring extra money for food and helping out with gas for whoever drives).

Tommyboy, we only have room for 1 more person. So we'd need a definite answer on whether or not you're going. The next person who tells me they want to go will be it. You won't be able to just 'show up' on that day. So let me know soon, ok? :Y:

That is so sad.  My heart goes out to those little ones.  They must have been so afraid. It is no wonder they are still hiding in the closet.  Can't someone help them leave?  Or have they already tried?

We watched that video in the barn while we were there. It's a cool video except for these facts: the elderly 'resident of Villisca' lady is actually a paid actress and doesn't live there AND the pictures they show of the family are not them. They were pretty pissed that they faked that.

Here's the actual family:

Linda Blair is the actual Hostess of the show. I think you might be right about the voice belonging to that woman. One thing is definite....that voice is strange! It even gets on my nerves more than frightens me though. But to my knowledge they never do show the woman behind that voice and the only female that appears on the show is Linda Blair.  My grandkids love the show n watch it all the time.

Villisca Iowa, Villisca Axe Murders, very real, be very afraid, I am considered sensitive, I was very sensitive that evening, and I still trip out thinking about that evening. I have a couple dozen EVP's that were caught using a ghost box (ie: Franks Box) I also have a video clip of something, to me i see a full bodied spirit. I have numerous videos of orbs, Im not a firm believer in Orbs but when it is 14 degrees out side its definitely not bugs, and in the dead of winter and there is no movement in the house I don't believe it is dust. Most orbs would generate from the area of the ghost box. I also had a ball roll from under a bed towards my feet, now wether this was paranormal I cant say for there was another person standing on the other side of the bed where the ball came from, that person swears he did not see a ball at his feet nor did he kick it towards me. Overall I would say this place has paranormal activity, If anyone has a group that would go and investigate this house I would love to join you. The house is very small so my suggestion to any group going is have just 5 or 6 investigators. Remember, Be Very Real, Be Very Scared, Be Very Afraid !!!

While doing some editing of a podcast I came across this audio clip about the Villisca Axe Murder House.

(Warning: Contains explicit language)

Rob's Rants - Villisca Axe Murder House (http://www.bachelorsgrove.net/archive/audio/RobsRantsAxeHouse.mp3)

This won't embed for some reason, flash is a security risk so it's turned off.  However MP3's should work fine, but it won't?

Also (Warning: Contains explicit language)  is a under statement....

PLEASE DON'T LISTEN IF SWEARING OFFENDS YOU!

He's not ranting about not getting evidence... He even says sometimes things don't happen... Look at the Congress downtown...

He was ranting about the way he was treated by other visitors as well as the people who run the place. Yeah, his grumbling about the size of the place is perhaps unwarranted, but I doubt anyone here would react differently to finding tape of people who wanted to tag along talking trash about you, or having your validity questioned in articles because you had no documentation.

I completely understood what he was complaining about. However it kind of got lost on me during all the ranting. I'm not offended by some cursing and I definitely enjoy a good rant now and then. However I have found that if you want professional people to take you seriously then you have to conduct yourself in a professional way.  Let's face it...when every other word is the same word weather it's  "know what I mean" or "F*c* then you start to wonder if that person knows any other words. I don't know about anyone else but I tire of it and begin to think that perhaps these folks were unco-operative with this man for other reasons than the ones he is stating. The bottom line is that I would have a hard time ever taking this guy seriously after hearing this. I'm sure he could care less about me and I care about the same for him.

I got an interesting email from my mom the other day.  Apparently work was slow and at about 4am she was talking to a new woman at her hospital, about all sorts of silly things.  Somehow or another they got on the topic of ghosts, and my mom said 'Oh, you and my daughter Rachael would get along great, she hangs out at this cemetery all the time, and she stayed the night at Villisca'.  When she mentioned Villisca the womans head snapped right up.  It turns out that her great-grandmother was from Villisca, and that she was friends with Katherine.  She was actually INVITED to spend the night with them that night, but her father said no because he thought that Katherine was spoiled and a bad influence.  Can you imagine that?  It 'haunted' her, so to speak, for the rest of her life, that if it had been to her, she would have been there, and died as a result.  The woman who works with my mom said that she sort of wants to go to the house, but she is afraid that she would be recognized by the spirits there as a descendant of one who should have been there and it would be a very negative situation.  In my opinion, I think it would be more likely that Katherine would recognize her as a descendant of her friend and would be happy to see her.

Weird, eh?  What do you think?

p.s... she also said that her great-grandmother kept all the original newspaper clippings and pictures and stuff her entire life.  My mom (knowing her daughter pretty well) immediately asked if the family still had them, but they are gone now.
