Title: St James-SAG location?
Post by: Tommyboy67 on Jun 05 2009 - 01:08PM
Can anyone give me the location &  directions to the old haunted St. James Sag cemetary?   That is supposed to be very haunted too.

Take LaGrange road south to Archer Avenue, turn right.  St. James will be on the left hand side of the road, you'll drive through thick woods along Archer for about 5 minutes before you get there.  It's roughly at Archer and Route 83.  It's beautiful there, I want to go back when it's not raining and take pictures!

No problemo!

FYI... the 'take LaGrange road south' only applies if you are north of Archer, if you're south of it, take LG north.

(Just in case anyone other than TommyBoy wants to take a gander....)

;)

Tommy, there are Irish laborers buried there who hand dug the I&M canal in the 1800`s. From what I had heard there was a indian village at one time near where St. James is located and the church is pretty old too.

Yes, it is a very rustic, open, interesting, wooded place. The outlay is wooded and hilly. Interesting overlooking the canal from the back side. I was last there I believe on a Sunday afternoon around '03-'04. Years back before that more in the mid 90's, I directed a funeral there. The mass/service was held there, but not the internment.

Make sure that if you hit up St. James, you also take a quick trip north on Archer to Maple Lake and see if you can spot the Ghost Light that floats above the water... http://www.prairieghosts.com/maplelk.html (http://www.prairieghosts.com/maplelk.html)

A little advise, I've talked to the Pastor of the Church a few times in the past and try to avoid doing Investigator stuff in view. Being involved with Historical Societies and also living within 10 minutes of the location, I've been there a lot.

The church is a very old building and kept up nicely. They say the hill it`s built on was a Indian Tribes home at one time and I know there are Irish workers from the building of the I & M canal buried there.

I was there some months ago. Very pretty place. We were going to go in the church but we didn't know if we were supposed to. Now I want to go back.

Mark do go back and I think it`s cool to go into the church too! Also check the graves there some of the stones are interesting and quite old. Like I said too there was a indian village that was there on the top of the hill.  :Y:
