Title: The Girl in the Shadow Box
Post by: jphunter26 on Oct 15 2009 - 01:19AM
Does anyone have any favorite tombstone sculptures? ....Besides "Eternal Silence" in Graceland cemetery?
Here is a photo of my favorite: taken at a cemetery in St. Louis.
It is "The Girl in the Shadow Box."

Eternal Silence has to be, hands down, one of the best statues/markers in the States. For those who don't know, this is Eternal Silence:

Also in Graceland Cemetery there's the statue of Inez Clarke:

But... Let's not forget some of the most awesome monuments built for the dead:

I live near Spring Grove Cemetery in Cincinnati, Ohio.  It is the second biggest cemetery in the country.  Huge and amazing place.  If anyone ever comes down this way let me know and I would be happy to go and show it off.  Here are three of my favorite pics!  That's my girlfriend, not me.

I love the Haymarket Martyrs monument at Forest Lawn Cemetery...

Inscripition reads: "The day will come when our silence will be more powerful than the voices you are throttling today"

(it's one of my favorite cemeteries too)

All great choices! Eternal Silence is the best...hands down!!!  che
Aren't those pyramid things landing wedges for interstellar starships?? lol
Graceland cemetery is an awesome place. Most people in this country think it strange to voluntarily step inside one.
But we enlightened people view them as outdoor museums..at least I do...
